Climb aboard a traditional horse-drawn jaunting car and journey through the magnificent Gap of Dunloe, one of County Kerry’s most dramatic landscapes. Carved by glaciers thousands of years ago, this narrow mountain pass winds between the towering MacGillycuddy’s Reeks and Purple Mountain.
Led by a local driver, traditionally known as a jarvey, the jaunting car follows the winding road past stone bridges, tumbling streams and five peaceful mountain lakes. With the steady clip-clop of the horse’s hooves and rugged peaks rising on either side, the journey feels wonderfully removed from the modern world.
Along the way, your jarvey will share stories, local knowledge and plenty of good Kerry humour. There will be opportunities to admire the scenery and capture photographs as the route climbs towards the Head of the Gap before descending into the remote beauty of the Black Valley.
